LOOP LENGTH CHART

Loop Drawing

  • The chart shows a suggested loop length ("L ") for various stock thickness and amount of slack material ("S ") for various feed line heights ("H").
  • The radius ("R") is normally considered to be about 360 x strip material thickness for mild steel to avoid distortion of material in the free loop.
  • In the example shown, there are four radii therefore: "L" = 4 X 360 x material thickness.
  • Increasing the "L" dimension to more than required for your material thickness is undesireable because it decreases available slack and increases the load on the feeder.
  • If the loop control is an "off-on" type, slack material should be about two feed lengths.
  • If the loop control provides variable speed depending on loop depth, slack can be less, but will depend on factors such as strokes per minute, feel length, etc.
